Hi-Speed HoundsNon-Profit Groups We Support
|
About:
Hi-Speed Hounds is a non-profit, all-volunteer greyhound rescue organization located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
Thousands of greyhounds retire each year when they are no longer competitive. We strive to educate the public and potential adopters about these gentle loving dogs and place them into permanent loving homes.
What We Do:
Once a Greyhound arrives in clinic we will do the following:
- The Greyhound will receive a complete physical examination
- Deworming for roundworm, hookworm and tapeworm is given.
- The Greyhound will be spayed or neutered. During the surgery they have an I.V catheter to increase the safety of surgery and keep them hydrated. They will receive by mouth pain relief for three days after surgery to help with their healing process.
- Basic dental work is preformed. This involves scaling the teeth and a complete dental exam.
- One night of boarding in clinic with a post surgical recheck in the morning which involves taking their temperature, checking their heartrate and looking at their incision to make sure they are ok to go home.

We would like to thank Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals and Bayer Animal Health for their generous donations of Metacam (Used for at home pain relief) and Advantage (Used as a deworming medication) that they were able to supply to us for the 19 Greyhounds that were rescued in Dec 2009/Jan 2010.
Thank you!
